THE REAL REASON EXTREMISTS NEVER RISE IN YORUBALAND — AND THE ONE MAN WHO DOOMED THE NORTH
Final Solution to Northern Extremism: Education.
Let’s stop pretending we don’t see the pattern.
Northern Nigeria is bleeding from the same wound, just with different names every decade:
In the 1980s, it was Maitatsine.
Then Boko Haram.
Then ISWAP.
Then Ansaru, Lakurawa, Mahmuda, Sadiku, Izala, Kala Katu, IMN.
Ten different groups. One same region. One same ideology. One endless uprising.
Now ask yourself the uncomfortable question no one wants to ask:
Islam is dominant in many Yoruba towns and cities — Iwo, Ede, Ilorin, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Lagos. So why does Yorubaland NEVER produce Islamic extremists?
Why?
The answer is not in the mosque. It is in the classroom.
In 1955 — 71 years ago — a man named Chief Obafemi Awolowo did what others called impossible. He launched FREE AND COMPULSORY PRIMARY EDUCATION in the Western Region.
It was a war.
Parents hid their children. Chiefs resisted him. The opposition mocked him. Awolowo did not beg. He threatened to use police force to arrest any parent who blocked his child from school. People were taken to court. Some were jailed for trying to sabotage free education.
He was called a tyrant. But he won the war against ignorance.
Look at Yorubaland today.
A 2-year-old child already knows the routine: wake up, dress up, go to school. School does not stop until that child is 21+, a graduate. It is not just education; it is culture. It is tradition.
And the curriculum matters. In Yoruba schools, a child is taught Islam, Christianity, and African Traditional Religion (through Yoruba language). The child sees all faiths, grows up, and makes an informed choice. He can be a Muslim, a Christian, or a traditionalist — nobody blocks him. But it is always orthodox, tolerant faith. Never extremism.
You cannot brainwash a child who has been in school since age 2.
Until the North finds its own Awolowo, this cycle will never end.
We must say it plainly: The North does not have an extremism problem. The North has an education problem that breeds extremism.
We don’t need more military operations. We don’t need more negotiations with bandits.
We need a leader in the North with Awolowo’s courage — a leader who will drag every child to school by force if necessary, shut down the streets during school hours, jail any parent who keeps a child at home, and make education more compulsory than religion itself.
Read this. Share it. Argue with it. But do not ignore it.
Until we do this, expect the 11th group, the 12th group, the 20th group. The names will change. The blood will remain the same.
A child with a book in his hand can never hold a bomb.
