Fani T. Willis is a popular American professional politician and an attorney from the state of Georgia. She is currently the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia.

Early career

Willis spent 16 years in the Fulton County district attorney’s office as a prosecutor. Her most recognized and prominent case was her prosecution of the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal. Willis went into private practice in 2018. She ran for a seat on the Fulton County Superior Court, the same year, but lost. Later she was elected district attorney for Fulton County, beating Paul Howard, a six-term incumbent, and her former boss, in 2020.

2020 election influence investigation

Willis launched a criminal investigation into a telephone call and other attempts by Donald Trump, on February 10, 2021. Trump tried to influence Georgia election officials, which include the governor and the attorney general. Willis stated at that time, no Georgia official is a target of the investigation. Trump could face 110 years in prison if convicted. She then requested a special grand jury to consider charges of election interference by Trump and his allies in January 2022.
