Its very sad to say that our government in various regimes (of Johnathan, Buhari & now Tinubu) have proved to be incompetent with lack of political will on our security issues; and, to me, we have a bunch of cowards and businessman in our military. It’s bloody, gory, nauseating to recall and describe. The military operational responsibility of the GOC 3 Division (headquartered in Jos) include 50% Nigeria-Cameroon border, 100% Nigeria-Chad border, 50% Nigeria -Niger Republic border as well internal security (where Police cannot cope) in 7 States (Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Adamawa & Taraba). Back to end of July 2009; on Monday 27th President ‘Yar Adu’a was the Commander in Chief and gave the order that security agencies should use all in their power to stop the mayhem and restore law & order in Maiduguri/Borno State. Note the following; on Tuesday 28 July; 1 Without being ordered by superiors; 2 Without seeking permission of Army Headquarters, and, 3 Without informing the Chief of Army Staff, knowing the political will of the President, the said GOC persuaded the pilot of the C 130 NAF transport aircraft to fly him with his staff car to Maiduguri and took over command of the operation from Brigadier Yahaya. By some 30 hours after landing Maiduguri, a mince meat of the terrorists was made. Again note that as at then, there were both an armiured Brigade (with its 3 battalions) headquartered in Maiduguri & a Task Force (commanded by a Colonel) combined with other security apparatus combating Boko Haram monsters. Now, you tell me, which GOC would DARE do such today? Which?
How can there be a forest in the Sahel savanna, inside Nigeria, inside Northern Nigeria, inside one (NE) geopolitical zone, inside one State, inside one LGA of just 518 square kilometers that the Nigerian military couldn’t capture for over 1 & 1/2 decades as well as being killed like chicken to our collective unending embarrassment.
