Campaign

He challenged Democratic former U.S. Representative Russ Carnahan in the general election on November 8, 2016, of him he defeated, after defeating two opponents in the Republican primary.

During his campaign, Parson’s former chief of staff criticized him for reportedly proposing legislation on behalf of a lobbyist and a $50,000 proposal to hire a valet for his vehicle. However, Parson described his former employee as a “disgruntled former employee.”

Governor of Missouri

Greitens announced that he would be resigning, on June 1, 2018, at 5:00 pm. After 30 minutes Parson was sworn in as governor.

Appointments

On June 18, 2018, Parson appointed Missouri Senate Majority Leader Mike Kehoe as Lieutenant Governor. The appointment came with legal ambiguity since the Missouri Constitution says that the governor had the authority to replace all vacancies “save those in the offices of lieutenant governor, state senator or representative, sheriff, or recorder of deeds in the city of St. Louis.”

However, according to him, he believes that the Constitution gave him authority to tap Kehoe as lieutenant governor.

The Missouri Democratic Party filed a lawsuit on June 19, 2018, in an attempt to overturn Kehoe’s appointment. However, the Democrats lost their case in Cole County Circuit Court owing to a lack of standing and the ambiguity of state legislation, which specifies that it cannot be done but does not give a procedure for filling the post. On November 7, 2018, oral arguments were heard.

Mike Parson, the governor of Missouri, began office on January 1, 2019. He took over the government that his predecessor, Eric Greitens, had abandoned. After he took over, he named Lynn Parman, Jay Wasson, and Christopher Waters to the Missouri State University Board of Governors by Parson.

Mike was questioned about voters who are concerned about traveling to a polling location after refusing the implementation of voting by mail in Missouri. While responding to the question he said such people should prioritize their safety and not vote. Moreover, on August 4, 2020, Parson defeated state legislator Jim Neely and Air Force veteran Saundra McDowell in the Republican primary.
