16 DAYS OF SILENCE: OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT “LESS NIGERIAN”

We are overwhelmed and shocked that three months ago, a total of 416 women and children were abducted in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA of Borno State* following terrorist invasions of the community.
Also, today marks exactly 16 days since kidnappers abducted 46 primary school children plus their principal in Oriire LGA, Oyo State. In the same period, 42 school children were kidnapped from Musa Primary School in Askira Uba LGA, Borno State.
Unfortunately, there has been no press statement or high-level delegation visit from the Presidency. It was only after social media influencers and media activists used their platforms to demand accountability that the FG moved.
We are angry. And we have questions.
Does that mean some Nigerian children are more precious than others? Does that mean children from the North East are less Nigerian than those from the South?
When the FG can dispatch a full security team to Oyo State to ensure rescue before they leave, why can’t they do the same for Borno State – the home state of the Vice President? Now be honest: if the same abduction happened in Northern Nigeria, would the Federal Government send this exact team? How many times has this happened in the North? How many times have we seen this level of response?
Yet an ordinary Nigerian in Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, or Maiduguri is still expected to defend selective sympathy. We are passionately impressed by the voices of advocates who refused to be silent.
Where are the voices of our elected representatives? Even the opposition is silent this time. We appreciate the Borno State Government for sending a delegation to console the people of Musa. But consolation without rescue is not enough.
I am adding my voice to the urgent call by the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Borno State. Together, we demand justice and immediate action for all abducted children.
Therefore, we DEMAND:
1. Immediate deployment of the same high-level security team sent to Oyo to Borno State, starting today. Sixteen days is already too long. No more excuses.
2. Daily public briefing from the Presidency + security agencies on rescue efforts for ALL abducted children, North and South.
3. End to regional bias in national security response. What is good for the goose must be good for the gander.
4. Protect our schools:The Safe Schools Declaration must move from paper to action. We demand urgent, enhanced protection for every school in conflict-affected and high-risk communities. Our classrooms cannot remain soft targets.
Our children are not bargaining chips. They are not statistics. Every child – in Borno, Oyo, , in Zamfara – deserves the full force of the Nigerian state.
