Canon Law and its Code.

The Catholic Church Canon law is the set of laws and legal rules that are formulated and enforced by the church’s top authorities to govern its government and organization outside of the church and to regulate and direct the actions of Catholics to fulfill the purpose of the church.

Canon law has an extensive history of evolution throughout the Christian time. A dynamic body that is governed by laws. It is a reflection of the political, social as well as economic, cultural, and ecclesiastical shifts that have occurred over the last two millennia.

Canon law has been used during various historical times in the management of the church’s liturgy preaching, charity works, and various other tasks through the course of which Christianity began to be established, and propagated throughout the Mediterranean region and further.

The role of canon law during liturgy and sermons, and other social activities is the creation and maintaining of those institutions which are thought to be the most helpful in the private life and the faith of those who belong to the church, as well as their role throughout the world.

SOURCES OF CANON LAW

The primary source of all the Church’s laws is that found in Scripture and, in particular, that of the New Testament. It is the New Testament that provides numerous clear guidelines for different areas that comprise Christian life. The Gospels offer guidance on issues such as baptism, Eucharist wedding, marriage, clergy payment, and the Church’s judicial power and relationships to the State. Saint Paul’s writings give more guidance to those in the Christian community, which include: the clergy’s payment, the requirements for ordination, the best way to deal with allegations against clergy, and how to deal with non-Christians.

ROLE OF CANON LAW IN THE CATHOLIC TRADITION

1. The Church has at various moments throughout its history been described by various authors as perfect communitas an ideal and supreme society with as its primary goal the advancement of the salvation of all humanity.
2. The Church is governed by rules which help it reach its goal This is the main role of canon law.
3. While civil law is primarily concerned with temporal happiness (Felicitas) while canon law is focused on perpetual satisfaction (beatitude). Canon law is the supreme law and ends the redemption of souls.

In actuality, in reality, the Code of Canon Law is vitally important for the Catholic Church.

The Function in Canon Law.

1. Canon law allows the organs and hierarchies of the Church clear. The Church is the spiritual body of Christ and is incarnated in physical structures here on the earth. Canon law is the source of good order for the Church and outlines the way it will function. This is because the Church operates as a structured society and their instances where a juridical superior might not be able to perform according to the rules of law.
