Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu born on 29th March , 1952. He was born in Lagos State, Nigeria. His mother, chief Abibatu Mogaji, was the Iyaloja of Lagos State. Tinubu is the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban of Borgu Kingdom, Niger State, Nigeria.
Tinubu has his schooling in the primary as well as secondary levels at St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, and Children’s Home School in Ibadan, Nigeria respectively. The couple is Oluremi Tinubu, the current Senator from his Lagos Central Constituency, and they have children.

Tinubu and his companions were walking toward the church when a shooting incident occurred. Tinubu was able to make a short escape, but the person who was right next to him was killed. In the aftermath, his family decided that it was time to go to school in the United States. The firms included Arthur Andersen, Arthur Young, Ernst and Whinney, Peat Marwick and Mitchell, Deloitte, IBM, Arthur Young, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, among others.
Tinubu was given the choice of choosing only one company. He could have chosen the most lucrative job, however, his professor suggested that he select a firm that would allow him to develop and contribute to the country he was working in. This led him to choose Deloitte and Touche because their clients are working in the gas and oil industry as Nigeria is an oil-producing nation.
Tinubu’s Career At Mobil Nigeria
After a career that was successful at Deloitte and Touche, he worked for General Telephone and Electronics (GTE). While working at GTE it was his first experience of discrimination and racism, which is why the company resigned him and he went to work for Mobil, United Kingdom.
When Tinubu was in 1983, he relocated his home to Nigeria and began working for Mobil Nigeria where he started in the auditor position. Soon after was he promoted to the post of treasurer. Tinubu was the architect of the Mobile Nigeria House.
Bola Tinubu Political Career
Bola Tinubu ventured into politics in 1992 under the banner of the Social Democratic Party of Nigeria (SDP). He was part of a section of the party dubbed”the Peoples Front. The Peoples Front was led by Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. The other members who were part of the People’s Front were Dapo Sarumi, Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Yomi Edu.
Tinubu became a senator in the Nigerian Senate in 1993 and was elected to represent his Lagos West constituency. As a senator Bola Tinubu was chairman of the Appropriation Finance and Banking committee.
Following the annulment of the June 12 1993 elections, Tinubu and other politicians who were pro-democratic, founded The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). NADECO was formed in order to restore democracy and ensure that the results of the June 12 elections were restored.
Bola Tinubu On Exile
The actions of NADECO were not a favorite with the dictator of the military at that moment (Sani Abacha). In fear of his life, Tinubu was forced to leave the country initially to the Benin Republic, later to the UK finally in 1994.
Then, Sani Abacha was killed in 1998. Abacha’s death however brought about change to a civilian administration. Then general Abdulsalami Abubakar was announced as the new head of state. In fact, it was Abubakar who pleaded with Bola Tinubu as well as other political leaders who were exiled to return to the country.
Bola Tinubu As The Governor Of Lagos State
Bola Ahmed Tinubu ran for the position of Executive Governor of Lagos State under the Alliance for Democracy party (ADP). Tinubu won the election and was elected Governor of Lagos State in May 1999.
When he was governor of Nigeria, Tinubu said to provide 10,000 housing units to those in need. Additionally, he made significant investments in education and started road constructions in order to accommodate the rapidly growing number of people living in Lagos State.
Bola Tinubu’s time as governor of Lagos State came to expiration on 29th May 2007. The Governor was replaced by the chief of staff Babatunde Fashola.
