Barack Obama was the 44th President of the United States. Born to an American white American mother and an African-American Kenyan father. He was the first African-American person to be elected to the presidency. Before becoming president He served for three terms in his district of the 13th District in the Illinois Senate and gained national recognition in his bid to represent Illinois in the United States Senate. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School He was a highly successful civil rights lawyer before entering politics. He was elected as a senator in Senate in the U.S. Senate in 2004 He started running for president in the year 2007. After securing enough delegates at the Democratic Party primaries to receive the presidential nomination, he then went to win the election by defeating Republican candidate John McCain in the general election. He took office as president of the United States in January 2009 at a time when the nation was struggling in the global recession. The expectations were high for the president who was to take over and the burden he carries are enormous. In the initial few months, the president implemented numerous reforms to improve economic stability and increase the growth of the economy. Obama also overhauled the foreign policy of America. Obama was re-elected for another presidential term in November of 2012.

Obama was born Barack Hussein Obama II on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Obama, Sr., and his wife, Stanley Ann Dunham. His mother was white American and had a lot of English descent, while his father was African Kenyan. His parents split at the time Barack was a baby.

His mother was studying before she became pregnant with Barack Obama and Obama lived with his maternal grandparents for a short period of time as his mother finished her studies.

He chose to run for U.S. Senate in 2004 and was elected by a surprise majority in the primary elections in March. He gave the keynote speech during the 2004 Democratic National Convention which was a hugely popular speech. He was officially sworn in as a senator on the 3rd of January, 2005.
