Religion Fanaticism And its Effects

Religion Fanaticism And its Effects

Religious fanaticism is a derogatory term used to describe a lack of critical passion or obsession that is connected to one’s or a group’s religious fervor.

An in-depth explanation of how religions can cause fanaticism in various religions.

Christianity.

Since Christianity was founded, a number of those in power have tried to control and expand the church, usually through the use of force in a ferocious manner.

The beginning of Christian fanatical rule began with The Roman Emperor Constantine

When Christianity was in power during the Empire of Constantine, it began to brutally suppress Christians and non-Christians alike. Christians who did not conform with official Orthodox policies, ideology, and practices”.

The fanatical Christian activity continued throughout the Middle Ages with the Crusades. The crusades were a religious struggle by the Catholics who were endorsed by the pope to take back the Holy Land to the Seljuk Turkish Muslims. But many Catholics consider the crusades to be an act of self-defense as Seljuk Muslims Seljuk Turkish Muslims were the initial aggressors that had attacked Christian land.

Charles Selengut, in his book Sacred Fury: Understanding Religious Violence wrote:

The Crusades were holy wars fought to preserve the Christian faith’s social and theological control. In their quest to conquer the Holy Land from the Muslims through force of arms the crusaders destroyed many Jewish groups and killed thousands of Jews because Jews were not averse to the Christian religion. Jews were forced to die during the religious war due to their existence-threatening the only truth that was proclaimed in The Christian Church.

Islam

Islamic extremism is a part of the early days of Islam when it was the time of the rise of the Kharijites in the seventh century of CE. The first division between Kharijite Sunnis and Shi’ among Muslims was debated over the succession of the religion and politics to the direction of Muslims. The Muslim community(Ummah) following the death of Prophet Muhammed.

According to some experts, this indifference to other people and the adolescent use of violence is distinctly different from the peaceful approach that jihadists intend to convey. While fanatic jihadists have perpetrated numerous terrorist acts across the globe.

Hinduism

Violence based on communalistic ideologies is quite predominant in the Indian subcontinent, especially since the British Raj, even resulting in the partition of British India based on religious lines. In contemporary India instances of violence against Muslims are politically driven and are a component of the electoral strategies of mainstream political parties which are linked to Hindu nationalists.

The research reveals that religious fanaticism has negative effects on humankind and the world in general. It is a catalyst for the destruction of property and lives and hatred, as well as unwholesome altercations and retrogressions in the socio-political and economic life of humanity.

The Difference Between Faith and Fanaticism.

Fanaticism is caused by being blinded by the brightness of one’s personal religious tradition by being near enough to it in lieu of seeing the entire world transformed by its illumination.

A person who is a believer adheres to the tradition of their religion, however, they live in the light and not in darkness. Contrary to the religious fanatic.

A person who believes that faith can be described as things that are not seen.

When you declare that you believe in God when you say that you believe in God, you recognize that you don’t fully comprehend God.

Identifying if one is a religious person or a zealot is determined by their attitude toward the beliefs of other people.

when you’re certain that people from different faiths are not to be trusted and adhere to the legal definition of one’s self-identity and identity, then you don’t have any claim to your faith. If you recognize that only God has the power to pronounce the verdict, not human beings as such, and, therefore, as an individual of faith it will be much easier to comprehend that there are others who have faith similar to you. And when you refuse them the right to be religious that in a way you’re denying your faith or at the very least, your humanity.

In reality, when you turn into an avid fan, in a way rather than worshipping God it becomes a game with God. Like any other kind of passion, even moral or religious passions can make a person blind.

It is possible to be passionate about your religion, but you shouldn’t make use of this passion to use it as a means to promote hatred for another religion.
